But I'm still hungry.

I just came across a quote that really hit home right now:

Most human suffering comes from our desire to experience reality different than it is

How hard is it to accept reality sometimes? Currently I am having a hard time accepting the reality that is my life, but its not because I want things drastically changed. No, I want more than I am being allotted. I don't think I am being selfish; maybe other people are happy with only eating half a fish. I want the whole thing.

Looking back - A quote from The Dhammapada

While I do not consider myself a Buddhist, I find inspiration in the words of wisdom that can be found in the pages of its books. This latest one made me really think:

Just as a flower which seems beautiful and has color but has no perfume, so are the fruitless words of the man who speaks them but does them not

Anyone can appreciate the meaning behind those words..

A Few Good Quotes

I was browsing google, searching for a line to put on my page and I have to say, that I came across more than one that I liked. It was hard to pick! So here is a compilation of my favorite quotes:

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, prepare to die."
- Klingon Proverb, Star Trek

Men are like parking spots, the good ones are taken and the free ones are handicapped.

Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

"I have never let my schooling interfere with my education."
- Mark Twain (1835-1910)

"Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."
- Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821)

"I don’t want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it by not dying."
- Woody Allen (1935-)

"I have an existential map; it has ‘you are here’ written all over it."
- Steven Wright

The man who smiles when things go wrong has thought of someone to blame it on.
- Robert Bloch

A Cure For Comatose. Coffee?

What a night. It was a night to beat out all nights. And omg am I tired today. And my eyes can hardly open. Now I am drinking freshly brewed coffee in at attempt to bring my body out of this comatose state. I won’t know if its working until at least 20 minutes pass by since it supposedly takes that long for the caffeine to get into the system. 30 minutes to get into the central nervous system. Look at that, a biology lesson this morning. Ha ha.
Anyways, some advice that I gave myself via a voice memo back on April 06, 2006 (yeah, that is how long I have had this phone, I am patiently waiting for my upgrade to come. That is another story in itself). I don’t remember what I was doing at 9:38pm on that day but I said:

You have to stop thinking about what is coming next and enjoy the moment

Sometimes I really just need to listen to myself. I know what I am talking about! haha

Fire Cools. Water Seeks its own Level.

An excerpt from 365 Tao by Deng Ming-Dao that I found rather inspirational this morning:

No matter how extreme a situation is, it will change. It cannot continue forever. Thus, a great forest fire is always destined to burn itself out; a turbulent sea will become calmer. Natural events balance themselves out by seeking their opposites, and this process of healing is at the heart of all healing.
This process takes time. If an event is not great, the balancing requiring is slight. If it is momentous, then it may take days, years, even lifetimes for things to return to an even keel. Actually, without those slight imbalances, there could be no movement in life. It is being off balance that keeps life changing. Total centering, total balance would only be stasis. All life is continual destruction and healing, over and over again.
This is why, even in the midst of an extreme situation, the wise are patient. Whether the situation is illness, calamity or their own anger, they know that healing will follow.

Feeling Low.

I believe this speaks for itself.

211. Let, therefore, no man love anything; loss of the beloved is evil. Those who love nothing and hate nothing, have no fetters.

I am really needing a hug today.

More words of Wisdom. Dhammapadically speaking.

Yet another quote from the Dhammapada:

If one man conquer in battle a thousand times a thousand men, and if another only conquers himself, he is the greatest of conquerors.

Makes you really stop and think for a minute, doesn’t it?

A Great Quote

Sometimes I feel like when doing school work for a particular class I am just doing what I need to to get the A and then forgetting that information forever (or in more technical terms, the information is only retained in the short term and is not encoded into my long term memory). Today, however, while doing an ethical comparison between Islam and Buddhism I came across a very thought provoking quote from the Dhammapada:

61. If a traveler does not meet with one who is his better, or his equal, let him firmly keep to his solitary journey; there is no companionship with a fool.

In my opinion there is no better advice than this. I’d rather be alone than with the wrong person; with a fool. Not only would that then put a person at risk for going down to their level but it could potentially cause you to miss out on connections with people who are more equal to you due to the fact that they would associate you with the fool. Birds of a feather…
